How is Apple doing versus Microsoft?

The great commercials that Apple runs on TV are well done.   What impact are they making?  The Saugeen and Kincardine Times keeps track of a lot of statistics.  We know what operating system people are using and even what Browser.

We get millions of hits per month world-wide with the majority of them coming from English speaking countries and of course Bruce County

Although Apple is the dominant music supplier and their I-Phone is wonderful, they don't seem to be making much of an impact on the dominant position of Microsoft.

Here are some stats we've been able to gather.  They don't differ from published estimates either.

The browsers in use reflect the push of Firefox, but IE is still dominant and MAC based Safari is small.  The newly introduced Chrome is virtually unknown by most.  Google will want to use it as a basis for their Cloud Computing in the future one would guess

As you will note Firefox must have taken most of it's users from IE.  Safari is a small percentage of the browser user community.

Conclusions:

Windows is still the dominant player in the personal computer industry.  Earlier this year MAC sales declined and PC sales went up due to the economy since the MAC and it's software and peripherals are much more expensive.  In other words MAC is great, but it costs a lot more than a PC does and lots of software is written for the PC only. 

That the MAC is a better machine for graphics is no longer valid because the makers of the software cater to the PCs wider reach.  MACs are very good, but they have not created enough Marketing and Technical push to overcome the PCs wide lead.  The new windows operating system will be crucial.  Lets see how this plays out.

The early people in the Market like SUN Microsystem with Unix have abandoned the desktop and have concentrated on the server market.
