Karen and Bernie Gill's home in Port Elgin was specifically designed for their lifestyle and built three years ago by Snyder Construction.

The larger foyer opens through sliding glass doors into the open concept main floor living, dining and kitchen area of 1,694 square feet with a three-sided fireplace in the centre and ash hardwood flooring.

Also, on the main floor is a bath, den, master bedroom with ensuite and a small laundry room that exits into a two-car garage. An extra feature, is the large covered deck off the dining room and hall, while the master bedroom opens out to the uncovered part of the same deck. The deck itself overlooks the backyard that includes a kidney-shaped swimming pool.

Looking forward to the future, the Gill's also had the halls and doorways made extra wide to accommodate the possible contingency of a wheelchair.

On the lower level [basement] is a finished spacious entertainment area complete with fireplace, bar, pool table and exercise area in addition to two more bedrooms, bathroom, storage room and cold cellar. Both fireplaces also feature custom-made maple mantles.
 

Featured on the Christmas Home Tour 2009, the Gill's home will be decorated by Bayberry's on High Street in Southampton.

The Tour, a fundraiser hosted by the Saugeen Shores Chambettes and the Tara Curling Club, will feature 11 homes throughout the area, each uniquely decorated for the holiday season.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tour and are available at the following local merchants:

The proceeds from the tour will go toward the Regional Integrated-Accessible Playground to built at Jubilee Park in Southampton, the "Let's Play Campaign" and the Tara Curling Club.
