Grey-Bruce becoming a hub for fresh food

Tuesday, August 12th, was particularly busy at the Keady Livestock Market in Keady as dignitaries gathered for the formal unveiling of the new Grey Bruce Agriculture & Culinary Map.

The map was designed to provide an easy way to source out local food producers and retailers in Grey and Bruce Counties. Jenny Amy, Vice-Chair of the Culinary Association (Grey Bruce ACA), who emceed the event explained that the group's vision is to expand on its motto of, "Our product is food and our difference is exceptional taste."

The concept of buying locally grown or produced food is seen as a win-win situation for both buyers and sellers. The purchaser acquires the freshest possible produce while supporting local growers and helping to reduce the carbon footprint left through long-distance transportation of food products.

In full colour, the map lays out many of the region's local farm fresh food locations in addition to local food events and tourist attractions. "We been fortunate to be able to partner with Grey and Bruce Tourism," says Amy. The map will be available at all Grey & Bruce famers' markets, farm gates, the 100 Mile Market in Meaford and other local food producers and retailers.
