The southern section of Goderich Street, from Country Road 25 (CAW
Rd.) to Barnes Avenue, including the Lake Ridge Drive intersection, will
be undergoing reconstruction to accommodate the traffic issues that will
result from the new Smart Centres Shopping Complex.
Although four contractors took out tenders for the project, none were
received back by the town by the closing date of July 29th at 2:00 p.m.
Apparently, there was some confusion in the submission of a tender by
Harold Sutherland Construction Ltd., the company that is doing the work
for Smart Centres with it being delivered to the wrong location, in the
wrong envelope and prior to the deadline. (next column)

According to the Town's Purchasing Policy however, in such a
situation, the Acting CAO can authorize the town's Department Head to
enter into negotiations, which is what has taken place.
Therefore, Harold Sutherland Construction Ltd. has been awarded the
tender in the amount of $491,483.00 plus applicable taxes. It is
anticipated that project will take six to seven weeks for completion and
will begin sometime after Labour Day in September.
