After the Parade commemorating 150 Years since the Light on the Chantry Island Lighthouse first shone over the waters of Lake Huron, the Propeller Club and the Marine Heritage Society sold Tee Shirts. Each Tee Shirt buy entitled the new owner to a chance on a beautiful 11 foot Sailing Dinghy These shirts showed the Playfair & the Pathfinder, tall ships that were to visit Southampton on July 19th, 2008. Due to engine troubles only the Playfair made it but the visit drew the largest crowds ever seen on the docks & shoreline of Southampton’s Saugeen River Harbour. And the winner was 8 year old Holly Jones of Port Elgin. Holly’s parents Warren & Debbie recently moved to Saugeen Shores. Her Dad is with AECL and they are building a home in Port Elgin. Interestingly Warren, as a teen, sailed on both the Playfair and the Pathfinder so when they saw the Tee shirts he and Holly both had to have one. With the Tee shirts came a chance to win an 11’ Sailing Dinghy, beautifully restored by master craftsman, Marine Heritage’s Robert Trelford |
