Built in 1865 for James George, the George House represents the
Victorian age at its finest.
With over 3,000 sq. ft., the two-storey, yellow brick home in Port Elgin
boasts five bedrooms and five and a half baths with a large covered
veranda at the front and a large upper deck above.
Today, the home still contains much of the memorabilia from the original
George family and the original hard maple floors still exist throughout
the main level except the front staircase which is constructed of
original pine. The formal living and dining rooms are easily separated
by large pocket doors in the decorative archway.
Christmas is a special time at the George House. In the Victorian
tradition, a fresh-cut, 10 foot tree in the living room is decorated in
Victoriana but, this year, the home will also be decorated by Heather
Smillie Designs with products provided by Ralph's Galore & Card Shop,
Port's Emporium, Shoreline Stone & Garden Centre and Window Art by Karen
Brioux.
The home will be part of the Christmas Home Tour being held November
20th and 21st sponsored by the Saugeen Shores Cham-bettes and the Tara
Curling Club. Tickets for the event are available at the following
