Southampton, and Saugeen Shores in general, have a plethora of artists ... writers, painters, sculptors, musicians and craft artistes.

On Monday, May 12th, at 7:00 p.m. the writers of the area will be highlighted at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre.   Hosted by the Genealogical Society, six authors will be featured.

Virginia Barter:  author of 'Searching for the Silver Fox: A Fur Trade Family History'.  This is about one of the earliest families in the area, the Miles Spencer family of Southampton.  Also included in the anthology is, 'The Long Journey of a Forgotten People: Métis Identities and Histories'.  She is also Secretary of the Métis Artists’ Collective Board of Directors.

Doug Johnson: author of 'The History of Southampton's Masonic Lodge'.  Johnson is one of the long-time residents of Southampton and a life-long Mason and Shriner.  As a volunteer in the community, he has been an active supporter of groups such as the Propeller Club, initiators of the Chantry Island Lighthouse Restoration Project.  He is also an historian when it comes to flags of the world and has one of the largest private collections found anywhere.

Mary MacKay:  author of 'Down Petticoat Lane', 'I Think We'll Go Too', 'Tatters in My Life', 'The Scooptown Diary' and other books about the early families and settlers of Elderslie Township, north of Saugeen Shores.

William Stewart:  author of  'At the Crossroads: A History of Hepworth'.  This book includes many photos, anecdotes and reminiscences of that area of the Bruce where people passed through, and still do today, to travel to the upper most tip of the Bruce Peninsula.

John Weichel: historian and author of many books including, 'Forgotten Lives - Early History of a Coastal Village', 'Southampton's First Public Burying Ground', 'Forgotten Times - Marine History of Southampton and the Bruce Coast', 'Steely Skipper' and 'The Body and the Bell'.
