The issue of signage and, in particular, gateway signage at the entrances of Port Elgin and Southampton, will be brought before council Monday night, March 9th.

The signs designed by Lucid Graphics met with initial approval when first presented.

Phase 1 will begin in the fall of this year with a focus on direction signage for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the downtown cores of Port Elgin and Southampton. Phase 1 will also include direction signage along Hwy. 21 if funds are available.

Phase 2 should see the completion of the directional signage part of the project and, at that time, Phase 1 of the new Gateway signage will be introduced. It is anticipated that the gateway signs should be completed in 2011, again, if funds are available.

Phase 1 has been allocated $75,000 as part of the 2009 capital budget.
