*Council has approved the hiring of Dave Spoenlein as public
works operator. He will take over from Douglas MacDonald, a public
works operator for more than 30 years. MacDonald's final day of work
will be Nov. 27.
*The township has endorsed a resolution by the Town of New Tecumseh,
calling on the provincial government to consider that the GST and
PST harmonization for any items, goods or services that are
currently subject to only one of the taxes, not be subject to the
other so that no new taxation is created. Mayor Mitch Twolan said
that premier Dalton McGuinty has said the new harmonized sales tax (HST)
is going through.
"Well, it can't hurt to support this resolution
then," said councillor Jim Hanna.
*The case is closed on the
mysterious firing of guns near the Green Acres Campground. The
campground owners were concerned about an incident July 19 and
wanted the township to do something about it. Mayor Mitch Twolan
said a meeting was held attended by representatives of the township,
the Nimrod Gun Club, Green Acres Campground and the Chief Firearms
Officer of Ontario.
"That meeting went well," he said. "We came to an understanding and
the case is closed. It's interesting to see what safety precautions
are taken at the gun club."
