Town Council

Shoreline Stone of Saugeen Shores is about to undertake the major shoreline upgrades along Fairy Lake in the heart of Southampton.

The 'summer' band shell that shelters summer band concert musicians was removed Tuesday, September 8th and it is anticipated that a permanent structure will be part of the lake improvement plan.

"The town is currently lowering the lake level," says Shoreline Stone owner, Brandon Gibbons-Vanderwel. "The process has started but it takes a little time."

According to a town representative, a new fountain is also going to be installed in the future to help with aeration of the lake in an attempt to curb algae growth. One of the most detrimental contributors to the lake's environmental delcine is the prolific multiplication of 'carp', [bottom feeding fish] that are resulting in the destruction of natural lake-bed vegetation.

The Fairy Lake retaining wall project is expected to be completed by September 30th, 2009.
