Fairy Lake in Southampton has less water in it than this time last week as the level is lowered for work to begin on the retaining wall.

The work will be done by Shoreline Stone of Saugeen Shores starting next week. The company recently won the tender with its bid of $48,216. Shoreline owner, Brandon Gibbons-Vanderwel says, that it will be the single largest contract they have done locally but not the largest job overall.

"The wall will be all-natural stone," he explained, "and all the material used will be environmentally friendly and under Ministry of Natural Resources guidelines. We are just waiting for the utility locates to be done and then we'll start work right away, as we are required to be finished by September 30th. Once we get started, it won't take long as we'll be using blocks that weigh about six tons."

Jayne Jagelewski, Manager of Recreation and Culture says that, while construction is on-going, the east trail will be closed at the bird pens and the entire lower area close to the wall will be closed until the work is completed. "If anyone wants any further information, they can contact Dave Burnside, the head of Engineering for the town at 519-832-2008.
