A cozy nook for dinner
Ron Boucher The Erie Belle in Kincardine is one of those few restaurants that has become a destination. Located at 259 Harbour St., the establishment is famous for its quality, service and atmosphere, and has become as much a part of Kincardine as the nearby lighthouse and the Paddy Walker Heritage Centre. It's easy to see tradition in action at the Erie Belle, as family introduces family to the delicious food, in particular the English-style fish and chips, and grandparents bring their grandchildren in for a treat. But it doesn't stop with the customers. Erie Belle's strength also lies in its staff, with many coming back to work during the summer months and weekend while they are away at post-secondary school, and often returning to work off-and-on for several years after that. The staff loyalty means many familiar faces, welcoming customers and offering prompt and attentive service. Owner/operator Ron Boucher and general manager Dana Clampitt say the good food and friendly staff are what make the Erie Belle what it is. Basically, a trip to Kincardine is not complete without stopping in at the Erie Belle. Saturday nights during the summer, you'll see line-ups at the door, even though the restaurant has a 200-seat capacity, including the patio. It's best to make a reservation. While the restaurant maintains its traditional look, it has also kept pace with the changing times, with several upgrades, including new floors, environmentally-friendly washrooms, new counters, retractable awnings, wall sconces, a flat screen television, sound system, environmentally-friendly pest control, and new ceilings. Besides the famous fish and chips (salt water and fresh water fish), the Erie Belle serves seafood, specialty pies such as steak and kidney pie, salads, wraps, appetizers, and some decadent desserts. It also features a wide selection of English beer, domestic beer, draft beer, coolers, cider, an extensive wine list, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and specialty hot coffees. Daily lunch and supper specials are available. The Erie Belle is open Sunday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Over the Christmas holidays, it is open every day except Christmas Day. So, make the drive to Harbour Street, Kincardine and "Let's get some Erie Belle." 22/02/2013 06:53 PM Also See www.eriebelle.ca |
