Ecumenical Concert

Something is happening in the Community.  Friday night there was a performance of Sir John Steiner's Crucifixion composed in 1887.  It took place in the Southampton United Church  His works are not performed much today, but were very popular during his lifetime. He was known for his music for choir and organ.

Under the direction of John Tite with organist Marjorie Tite a large choir was put together featuring tenor John DeJager.  He has range and control.

What was different about the concert was not the performance and not the performers, but the nature of the audience and the religious faiths present, which had a broad range..  Rev. Keith Reynolds has a way of bringing people of all faiths together in a way not seen here before.

Rev. Margaret Greenhow of the Anglican Church across the street participated and the closing remarks were given by Father Peter Meyer.  Keith seems to have the ecumenical gift.

Stainer's work is a powerful look at the Crucifixion and it was a backdrop to a larger stage.  This is the second concert at the Church this week.  Wednesday there were nine organists playing classic works by Bach and others.  Again many faiths were represented..

It appears that music and  two young clergy, Reverend Keith Reynolds and Father Peter Meyer are bridging the gap

There are some people who have that gift and it appears we have some of them in our midst.  We should all try to attend these events.  They used to be rare.
