Duplicate house numbers not a problem on Penetangore Row

Having duplicate house numbers on Penetangore Row and Penetangore Row South poses no problem for emergency management, safety or emergency services. That's the word from Kincardine's community emergency management co-ordinator Roberta Trelford and fire chief Jamie MacKinnon.

Several new houses being built along the west side of the old soccer fields, just north of Saratoga Road, bear the same numbers as those further south on Penetangore Row South.

Trelford says that's not a concern because the new houses are in the Municipality of Kincardine, while those further south are in the Township of Huron-Kinloss. "There are five or six houses where the numbers are the same," she says, "but it's not considered duplication because they are in two different municipalities."

From an emergency services standpoint, MacKinnon agrees there is no problem because when the 911 call comes into the fire hall, it includes the house number, the street name and the municipality. In this case, Penetangore Row shows up as Kincardine, and Penetangore Row South shows up as Huron-Kinloss.

Even with the Kincardine Fire Department covering the Huronville subdivision in the township, there is no concern, says MacKinnon. "It's very straightforward because the calls coming in will show the streets are in two different municipalities," he says.

He notes that he cannot do anything about mail getting mixed up between the duplicate addresses.
