Council Supports Police Service in efforts to exempt them from GST

Several Town Councils are throwing their weight behind a recent motion in support of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) to exempt police services from PST on goods and services.

All Police Services in Canada do, in fact, have the ability to be exempted from paying the Federal GST, or to apply for and receive back any GST paid.

Services are faced with the ever-increasing challenge of providing adequate and effective police service to communities despite rising costs.

Several communities, such as Woodstock, that maintain their own Police Service tied to the local property taxes within the municipality, want to see their Police exempt from the PST, also including the same exemption for annual license fees for municipal police and fire vehicles.

Saugeen Shores Town Council also unanimously supported the motion
