Council Meeting May have set a record for brevity

Town  Council

(continued)

The Monday (May 11) meeting of Saugeen Shores Town Council was fairly routine and, in fact, the Committee of the Whole may have broken a previous record held by former Mayor Mark Kramer, in that ... that portion of the meeting was over in six and a half minutes.

The one key point to come of the Committee of the Whole was the appointment of a 'Drainage Superintendent'. Dave Burnside, head of engineering for the town will now be wearing the additional hat.

He will oversee drainage issues within the municipality. Huron-Kinloss Township is having serious difficulties with drainage given the residential development that is occurring.

The result is many arguments have developed between neighbours, where the natural flow of water is being impeded, causing flooding to yards and basements.

While council agreed that changes to lots because of development is a civil matter, the appointment is seen as a proactive measure by the town. Vice-Deputy Mayor, Doug Gowanlock, said he felt perhaps the time had come to set out some rules whereby a new builder would have to give heed to any drainage issues prior to building. "Maybe it's time we looked at a policy in this matter of water flow issues," he said.
