month and a group of people from the Kincardine agency's drop-in centre
brought greetings and treats to the Kincardine council meeting Wednesday
(May 20).
Members of council, municipal staff and members of the media enjoyed
cookies, squares and coffee prior to the meeting and then during the
public forum, Jackie MacDonald and several of the young adults spoke
about the benefits of Community Living and what it means for Kincardine.
Among the agency's activities are a cooking club which meets on Tuesdays
and Thursdays at the drop-in centre on Lambton Street, swimming on
Friday nights, Special Olympics, and a Self Advocacy Team which speaks
out on behalf of the clients who can't speak for themselves.
"We have a lot of fun," said MacDonald. "The goodies we brought were
prepared by the cooking club."
Besides baking, the club members plan to take on some sewing projects,
selling their wares at the Market in the Park Mondays in Victoria Park.
The group has received praise for its homemade dog biscuits and plans to
sell those at the market as well. (next column)
