Community Improvement Plan Committee Approved by Town Council

July 28, 2008

A Community Improvement Plan Committee was approved by Town Council on Monday, July 28th.

Five applicants, John Fortier, Lesley Hall, Brad Smith, Trevor Wardrop and Greg Wolfe were approved along with Charles Ebenstreit, Councilors Luke Charbonneau and Jane Barber.  The Committee will be working with Joanne Robbins from the Chamber of Commerce while Jay Pausner and Linda White will act as town resource staff.

The first task will be for the Committee to define the area of the downtown that should be included in the study.  Councilor Huber raised the concern that both Port Elgin and Southampton downtown cores should be considered in the study.

Councilors Luke Charbonneau and Thead Seaman however, recommended that, because each downtown is unique, it would be more advantageous to strike two separate committees to come back to council with separate plans.

Mayor Smith stressed that, " ... regardless of any plan, people from the downtown core must participate if any plan is to work ..." and he urged everyone to make their thoughts known to the committee.
