John Miller, Chair of the Saugeen Shores Community Fund Association
presented the group's annual update to Council at their Monday night
meeting. Founded in 1992, there are now 21 community foundations raising monies that stay within the communities.
"We were very fortunate this past year to receive a $1million donation
from the McKay family. There is no doubt that the global economy is
hurting everyone's investments and we are no exception although we are
faring slightly better than most." 09/03/2009 11:30 PM

Miller said that the fund is nearing $30,000 and that both the Port Elgin Cenotaph Endowment fund and the Marine Heritage fund were now available to receive donations/grants. "This is one of the few community funds that will still be taking applications for grants this year and they should be submitted by March 31st." Miller, on behalf of the Fund also requested that Council once again consider support for the group in the amount of $5,000 as it has in the past.
As Chair, Miller also outlined several activities planned for 2009,
i8ncluding the annual Triple Play Golf Tournament on June 25th, the 3rd
annual Mayor's Gala on New Year's and an environmental forum to be held
at the CAW in Port Elgin in October. |
