Mens' Golf News
There was lots of action this week in the Thursday night
Mens' Section event, as Steelback Breweries began a weekly
sponsorship for the boys. Each week, Steelback will provide
a prize to the lucky winner of a draw. This week, John Upper
was the fortunate player to claim the Steelback prize.
Back to the golf results. In the A-flight, which was
sponsored by Coblenz and Brown Drywall, Phil Hunt, who hits
his drives long, shot a great round of one over par 36 on
the front nine to take first low gross honours. Bruce
Towner, who also had a good round of 39 took the low net
award with a net score of 35.
In the B-flight, sponsored by Wino's in Port Elgin, Mike
Cleary had a steady round of five over par 40 to take first
low gross. Ed Pette won the first low net prize with a net
score of 34.
In the C-flight, which was sponsored by Martin's Home
Hardware in Southampton, Charlie Schmalz took another trip
to the prize table with a great round of 45, winning first
low gross in the flight. Hugh Morrison also went back to the
winners' circle to claim first low net with a net score of
35.
In the D-flight, which was sponsored by the Walker House in
Southampton, Watt Rodgers had a good score of 51 to win
first low gross while Russ Solomway claimed first low net
with a net score of 38.
Paul Holk won the Closest to the Pin competition on the
fifth hole while Mike Pitzen sunk the Longest Putt on #1.

Ladies Golf News
The Ladies Section began its year last Thursday morning with a different
type of format. The first Thursday will be an organized event with
prizes to the winners of various competitions spread across the 18
holes. The balance of Thursdays each month will be fun golf events with
no entry fee - just come out and play whenever you can make it. This
week was the offical opening round for the Ladies, and the prizes were
awared as follows:
Pat Urstadt won low gross with a score of 99 while Joan Chiappetta won
low net with a net score of 76. Waverley Johnston and Marguerite
Strangeways were tied for using the lowest putts over the eighteen holes
- a perfect two putts per hole for a total of 36. Sandi Sisko won the
Longest Drive competition of the fourth hole and also took the Longest
Putt contest on #16. Betty Ross had the Longest Drive on #17 while Roma
Rolfe won the Closest to the Pin on the fifth hole.
Any Ladies members of Chippewa Golf and Country Club are welcome to join
the Thursday group at any time. Just come out and join us.
