Chamber Hires New Coordinator for 150th
|
Hard on the heels of the recent grant of $94,800 given for Southampton's
150th Anniversary celebrations, came the news that an Event Coordinator
had already been hired under the Job Creation Partnership (JCP)
sponsored in part by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
(MTCU). Brenda Barringer will begin in her new full-time position Tuesday, April 1st. Barringer, from Bancroft, worked in Belleville at a housing facility for girls, where she was involved with volunteer teachers and fundraising for donations to the home. At one point, she also organized a media event for a visiting Minister of Education. "I was in Southampton for the first time last fall," says Barringer, "and found the area quaint and beautiful. I haven't had a chance to meet with any of the 150th committee volunteers yet but look forward to it." |
(continued) According to Joanne Robbins of the Chamber of Commerce, "Connie Barker, formerly with the Chamber, will be acting as a mentor until Brenda becomes familiar with the area. Although she will initially be here in Port Elgin, she will eventually work out of the Southampton office located in the Town Hall building." Barringer will not be residing in Saugeen Shores but will make her home in Strathaven near Chatsworth. Related Links:
