Celebrating the Light

Heritage

(continued)

Museum Stage will be decorated for the 150th anniversary of the Lighting of the Chantry Island Light

The stage is set and the celebration is about to begin.

On April 1st, 1859, the light in the Chantry Island Imperial Lighthouse was lit and 150 years later, April 1st 2009, a concert will celebrate that special time and begin the official 'Year of the Lighthouse' at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.

Renown entertainer and raconteur in song, David Archibald, is featured along with other local guest artists, including Angele of Southampton.

Lighthouses and range light built by the Southampton Propeller Club set the stage in the Museum for the upcoming year and illustrate the role that the lights played in the early days of shipping and settlement.
