Richard Martin, right, chairman of the Bruce Telecom board, welcomes new president and CEO Michael Andrews

Bruce Telecom Board Chairman, Richard Martin, proudly introduced the company's new President & Chief Executive Officer at the September 10th meeting of Kincardine Council.

Michael Andrews takes over the position from Hans O. Nilsson who retired in the spring.  Martin said Andrews has 30 years' experience in the telecommunications business and was President and CEO of Amtelecom in Arthur.

Mayor Larry Kraemer said that there were a lot of good candidates for the position but the board chose Andrews for his experience and expertise in the industry.

Martin also offered the Board's appreciation to acting General Manager, Bill Sipprell, who took on interim leadership throughout the past few months.

In his presentation to council, Martin said that Bruce Telecom continues with its initial two phases of the Fibre to the Home project in Southampton.  "It is to be completed by the end of this year," he said, "and the company's full cellular service - Bruce Mobility- is under way and should be launched in late October in addition to processes being finalized for Digital TV."

He added that, "Bruce Telecom's competitive local exchange carrier initiative is making inroads into Southampton and Owen Sound and, as for finances, the company expects to exceed it budgeted operating surplus by the end of July."

The matter will come to Council in late November or early December
