Bruce Telecom's Fiber Optics
|
Deciding Where to Dig Clearwater Drilling has begun the first phase of the new fiber-optic installation by Bruce Telecom in Southampton.
Clearwater's Derrick Faust (Left), Clay Forrest on borer and Josh Zabo Fiber optic cable provides the opportunity to access the
latest in digital technology with high speed Internet or television from
Bruce Telecom. Bruce Telecom is, in fact, the first phone company in
Canada that uses Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG-4) technology to
delivery digital television. |
(continued) MPEG-4 delivers high quality digital sound and pictures to residential televisions, including high-definition TV (HDTV) and yet uses less bandwidth. Digital TV can be delivered to any television set. The MPEG-4 compression method means, however, that the company can offer more channels and, for residents, it means using a single phone line connection to the home for multiple television sets, high speed internet and telephone services.
Laying the Main Fiber Optic Line In 2007, Bruce Telecom revenue was $15.25 million earned
not only from its 14,500 customers but also from additional Internet
customers throughout Southwest and south-Central Ontario. An
independent company, Bruce Telecom prides itself on providing completely
local customer service. The company's 'One for All' bundled service
includes telephone, video on demand, high speed Internet, digital
television and long distance plans. The company also offers, at no cost
to residents, Home Wireless hardware for self-installation of digital
systems. "In other words," explains Nilsson, "you can come into one of
our retail locations, pick up the necessary box, take it home or to the
cottage and simply install digital television in a matter of minutes.
You can also move your television set to another room without worrying
about rewiring, or reconfiguring satellite dishes or having cords
everywhere. It's convenient and less expensive for the customer." Also, see Bruce Telecom |
