Trelford, a retired teacher, started the lighthouse restoration project with a small group of retirees in Southampton, Ontario against all odds and naysayers who said the retirees could not undertake such an involved project. The small band, which expanded to include many community volunteers, brought to fruition one of the most complex undertakings for a lighthouse restoration.

Never one to be idle, Trelford is constantly busy with one initiative or another. He is currently involved in completing an historic natural exhibit to be placed in the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre. Working with Archie Gillies and Mike Sterling of Southampton, Trelford has sliced and varnished slabs from an old-growth, giant maple tree. The rings within the slabs indicate the growth of the tree and historically what was occurring with each year's growth during the tree's life cycle. It is to be an exhibit at the Museum of what took place in Bruce County at specific times in the life of the tree.

Trelford celebrated his 80th birthday, surrounded by family and friends.
