More than 500 people turned out for breakfast in Tiverton Saturday morning, raising $4,500 for the family of Lukas Huber, the three-year-old son of Rolf Huber and Debi Johnson who was killed in a farm accident July 31.

"This is great community support for the family," said Judy Burger of Carmell's Restaurant in Tiverton. "By 7:45 a.m., people were already lined up for breakfast (which started at 8 a.m.). I'm proud of everyone who helped out; they did a fantastic job. It's important to help this family through such a difficult time."

Burger and her staff joined numerous volunteers to help cook and serve the meal, organized by the Tiverton Ladies Fastball League, at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon, toast, juice and coffee.

Holding Lukas' twin brother, Lliam, Johnson sent out a quiet thank you to everyone who attended the breakfast. "It means a lot to know how much everybody will miss him too," she said.

She is thankful for such a wonderful community. "Judy (Burger) has been amazing. She brought food to our home Saturday afternoon (after the accident) and again Saturday night; and then she wanted to know what else she could bring."

Besides Burger and her staff at Carmell's, sponsors of the event included Sobeys (Kincardine), Beef Way, Foodland (Kincardine), Tiverton Firemen, Kwik-Way, Paul and Lesley Bridgeford, Tiverton Ladies Fastball, Sysco (Tim Thompson), Wal-Mart (Port Elgin), Ralph's (Port Elgin), Tim Hortons (Port Elgin), Bluewater Sanitation, Legault's Independent (Port Elgin).
