Open the door to Bayberry's on High Street in Southampton and the scent
of flowers fills the air, despite the snow outside.
Larry and Kathy Simon knew when they found Southampton that they had
also found the place where they wanted to eventually retire. Today,
their business Bayberry's, is not only Southampton's source of floral
arrangements for every occasion, it has also become a fixture in the
town. Community groups have come to depend on the Simons for displaying
not-for-profit signage and even for selling tickets to events. "We just
try to give back to the community that has been so good to us," explains
Larry Simon.
Personal service is the core belief at Bayberry's and, meeting floral
requirements means a weekly trek to the Brampton flower auction to
ensure that their customers receive only the freshest plants and
flowers. "We often have special custom orders and requests and, the one
way to ensure our customers' satisfaction, is to hand-pick the flowers
that they ask for," says Kathy.
While flowers and plants are the mainstay of their business, Bayberry's
has also diversified into areas such as home decor, stationery, the
popular Crabtree & Evelyn line of creams and candles, to name only a
few. (next column)

"We try to also support local artists by carrying a
variety of handcrafted cards and mementos that can only be found here in
Southampton," says Kathy. "In addition, we try to buy Canadian, whenever
possible, and also products, such as Zen lotions, that are
environmentally and use no synthetics. As would be expected from someone
who loves flowers and plants, we were also one of the first local
businesses to move into using recycled paper bags instead of plastic."
With Teleflora Service, Bayberry's can arrange for flowers to be wired
almost anywhere in the world. It's just another aspect of the personal
service that Bayberry's provides.
