Now, the Kincardine resident and three others in the battalion have been honoured with awards named after them and presented to exemplary soldiers in the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, for various accomplishments. The awards will be presented each year to the successful candidates.

Besides Mann, awards were named after William "Sam" Magee of Oshawa, Herb Peppard of Nova Scotia, and John Akehurst (deceased).

Plaques were also made in recognition of the awards and they were displayed to the honourees during a special ceremony last June in Pembroke, Ontario.

"It was a truly momentous occasion," said Mann. "The Battle Honours of the First Canadian Special Service Battalion will be honoured for years to come and our military lineage has been established."
