The Southampton Art School held a special 'meet the artist' reception on Saturday for the newest Artist in Residence, Pat Keeling.

A steady flow of visitors took advantage of the opportunity to meet Keeling and hear about her travels. Although she travels the world extensively, she makes it a point to make every second trip within Canada.

Keeling's artwork presently featured in the School centers around her expedition to Antarctica. "It was a university alumni trip," explained Keeling.

Author, Laura Robinson and Engineer, John Cameron, took in the exhibit

"There were 200 of us on an icebreaker and we would take zodiacs into the shore each day. There were naturalists and environmentalists, photographers and artists ... it was the most awe-inspiring trip I have ever gone on. It truly is a remarkable place that really 'belongs to the birds' and the glaciers are overwhelming."

She also specializes in print-making and will be teaching a workshop at the Southampton Art School on Saturday, April 11. Reservations can be made by contacting the School. In the meantime, anyone interested in seeing the process can visit the Art School Wednesday to Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
