Archives Awareness Week

Archives Awareness Week.  Don't Miss It

Beautiful Bruce County Museum -- Home of the Extensive Archives

Bruce County is an area rich in history and heritage and many of the records and photos from its past are kept safely at the Bruce Country Museum & Cultural Centre. All this week, the Museum's Archives Department celebrates Archives Awareness Week.

Most of the records are stored in the protective climate controlled Archival 'Stacks' room that is normally closed to the public. Every day this week however, visitors will have the chance to view first-hand this 'inner sanctum' of the Archives and also to meet the knowledgeable staff.

Ann-Marie Collins

Archive Assistant, soon to become the Museum Archivist, Ann-Marie Collins, explains that, "This week is an opportunity for people to come and see how the records of Bruce County are being stored and the sheer magnitude of them. All our staff would be happy to answer any questions visitors may have and it's a chance to visit our 'Reading Room'. We have researchers and geneologists who frequently use the incredible resources that we have here, but we're also glad to help anyone who may be trying to find some specific information about the County's past or even a family history. Archives are essential in the preservation and access to our documentary heritage."

The Archives is open at 10:00 a.m. and, during the week, admission will be free so that everyone can have the chance to view items from the County's rich history.
