A delightful romp in "Sexy Laundry"

"Sexy Laundry" is either hilariously funny or outrageously awkward, depending on your own situation.

The latest production by the Bluewater Summer Playhouse opened Wednesday (July 8) at the Kincardine Arts Centre and runs until July 25. Written by Michele Riml, it tells the story of Alice (Mary Long) and Henry (Ralph Small) who are trying to put some spice back into their relationship after 25 years of marriage. Because the play is staged in the couple's bedroom at a trendy hotel, and they are displayed in their night attire, some in the audience are going to find it awkward to view, while others will laugh through the entire show.

Watching an old married couple attempting to do silly sex games is funny, but heart-wrenching at the same time. Henry appears quite happy with the way things are, but Alice wants more spark, more excitement, what they used to have. With their busy lives, the major complaint is finding time to have sex. Henry likes watching TV when he comes home from work, so Alice snidely suggests they could perhaps squeeze in the act during commercials?

She sincerely wants to jump-start their sex life but Henry looks at the book she brought, "Sex for Dummies," and finds he can't even read out loud some of the suggestions. But he agrees just to appease Alice.

One hilarious scene has them both blindfolded and trying to grope for each other on the bed, but they can't even find each other and end up nearly falling off the bed.
Can their marriage survive Alice clad in leather and other such misadventures?
