Laura 'Toots' Macaulay (nee McPhail) was a 'true blue' Southampton girl.
She was born January 22nd, 1914 in her grandparents' home, known as the "Rose Home", that stood at the corner of Albert and Morpeth Streets in Southampton.
Her mother Laura was born in Southampton in 1888 and with her mother and father Jack McPhail, she grew up in a house on Grosvenor Street South.
After attending Stratford Normal School, then-McPhail taught in the one-room schoolhouse in Clavering until she married George Macaulay in 1939 and the couple moved to Detroit Michigan.
George Macaulay's grandparents also lived in Southampton and were Mariners on the Great Lakes.
In Detroit, the couple raised two children, Mary Ellen Lepage (nee Macaulay) who lives in Southampton with husband Larry and Bob Macaulay of Southern Pines, North Carolina.
The family summered in Soutampton and, when the Macaulays retired, they moved back to Southampton.
Laura was very involved as a volunteer in many groups in the community from the Hospital Auxiliary to the Bruce County Museum Board.
