Members of the public are invited to take part in round table discussions on a variety of topics related to the 2010 Bluewater District School Board budget.

The meeting will take place at the Chesley Administration Centre May 4th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

“When we talk about discussing the budget it’s important to remember that less than two per cent of our budget is discretionary spending,” Booth says.  The bulk of the budget is accounted for by wages and benefits, transportation costs, plant supplies, contracts and debt administration.

Participants are invited to review a budget discussion guide, Budget 101, and the Ministry of Education School Funding Guide for Parents prior to the meeting. Both are available on the board website: http://www.bwdsb.on.ca/business/1011_Budget

The consultation will include discussion of community educational priorities and pressures facing the board during this budget year.

“Some of the challenges we face include declining enrolment, excess space in schools, rural geography and competing priorities throughout the system,” Booth says, “and we are always interested in hearing suggestions the community may have as we prepare the budget information for the board.”

All members of the public are welcome. For those unable to attend, feedback can be provided through School Community Councils before May 14th.
