Kincardine mayor Larry Kraemer holds special plaque of recognition for the HMCS Kincardine

A special presentation was made to the Municipality of Kincardine last week during the District C convention of the Royal Canadian Legion held in Kincardine.

Commanding officer of Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) York, Matthew Davies, presented a plaque to Kincardine mayor Larry Kraemer. The framed picture of the HMCS Kincardine included a description of the ship's history and missions.

During the Second World War, the HMCS Kincardine was part of the Battle of Atlantic fleet, serving in the English Channel after D-Day for about a year-and-a-half. The ship was later sold and turned into a merchant vessel.

Kraemer showed Kincardine council the plaque during its meeting Wednesday night (April 14). The plaque will hang in a prominent spot in the municipal administrative centre.
