| A flavour of European giftware and home décor is now available in downtown Kincardine. Corinne Robertson-Brown and her team have transformed the former Rolz and Sassy Baby Boutique into J'Adorn, something different for the local market. Located at 791 Queen St, the store opened Saturday. "We are aiming for a look that’s a combination of a chic Parisian boutique, a Provence flea market, and a hidden Italian courtyard,” says Robertson-Brown. “We want it to be fresh, different, but above all, beautiful.” J’Adorn will carry a mix of items from across Europe and North America, including distinctive statement pieces for the home, select garden décor, and exclusive fragrance lines. “We have been hunting down treasures to bring in, and have taken care to have something in every price range,” says Robertson-Brown. The back of the shop houses an extensive perfumerie which will carry traditional quality products for both men and women, including religiously-preserved recipes since 1822 from Paris, and from Napoleon's favourite Perfumer. “We will also be bringing in guest speakers and hosting seminars and other interesting events, and will keep bringing in new items all the time," says Robertson-Brown. "A lot of our items will be one-of-a-kind, since we want to keep it interesting. “We are very happy to be joining the wide range of beautiful boutiques and gift stores in downtown Kincardine, and are proud to be a part of making it a wonderful destination for shopping.” Joining Robertson-Brown for the opening on Saturday were her husband, Bill, and her three employees, Brenda White, Gloria Threndyle and Lise Blais, as well as her consultant and friend, Renée Desrochers of Thornbury. One day about four years ago, Robertson-Brown walked into a little store tucked inside a beautiful Victorian house in Thornbury. Her jaw dropped as she looked around at the exquisite furnishings and displays and thought, "This is amazing – I could move right in and live here." That store was Pamper & Soothe, and she returned whenever she was in the area, three or four times a year, just to have a chance to shop there again and visit with Desrochers, the owner. Robertson-Brown urged her to open a similar shop in Kincardine. Then, one day, Desrochers said, "Funny you
should mention that again ... my mother has a store like this in Port Perry,
and she just had someone walk in there and ask her about opening one in
Toronto!" One conversation led to another, and in short order, Desrochers
and her mother, Elke, suddenly found themselves mentoring not one, but two
newbies to the retail world. Elke’s original store in Port Perry was also
called Pamper & Soothe, but she renamed it "Adorn" when she moved down the
street a few years ago. In keeping with that theme, the two new "sister stores"
became J’Adorn in Kincardine, and Adornments on Queen in
Toronto. J'Adorn in the News
