"We are very supportive of businesses in this community," said Schmidt.
"Kincardine represents a large part of our active portfolio." Farrell added that if council knows of any business looking for financing, it should contact Schmidt. "We have helped out with the Walker House, the Kincardine BIA (Business Improvement Area) study, and we're working with Steve Murray (Kincardine's economic development manager)." It is also considering a tourism strategy and undertaking a regional seniors' needs study. "Our focus is bringing business to Kincardine and keeping business in Kincardine," said Farrell. The Bruce Community Futures report states that the Ontario Self Employment Benefit program continues to offer valuable financial support and entrepreneurial training to new businesses. The program was suspended in October, 2009, but has been granted a further 12-month extension through to March, 2011.
