The Kincardine District Secondary School OSAID (Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving) group received a great financial boost Wednesday when the Grey-Bruce Insurance Brokers Association made a donation of $975. Presented at Miller Insurance, by Doug Storrey and Todd Farrell, the money will cover the cost for six members of the OSAID to attend the annual conference in Oakville May 5-8. Jessica Brown has been to the conference before and says it is an awesome experience. "You learn a lot of things about developing leadership in the community," she says, "plus you bring back all kinds of inspirational ideas for events to hold here." Besides Jessica, the conference attendees include Lainey Ogilvie, Andrew Moreau, Jessica Gallant, River Roy and Heather Girdwood. The main stage presenter this year is film and television actor Scot Anthony Robinson in "Vision Warrior," a theatrical lecture presentation. Also on the roster are Stu Saunders who delivers hilarious, empowering and memorable presentations; "Danae's Song" which is a tribute to the life and death of Danae Ashton Grace Dupuis; Lance Constantine; and Sara Westbrook. |
The conference also features workshops on everything from inspiring action in your community to improving communication skills, as well as yoga, self-defence and dance. Other events and activities include a climbing wall, Arnold's Sports Bar (with no alcohol), a semi-formal dance with a 1950s theme, a Chain of Life, awesome food, and a road safety and resources fair. The 30-member KDSS OSAID group has held several events and fund-raisers over the past year, including the recent yard sale and silent auction, Bring Your Own Banana/Bring Your Own Mug day, benefit concert; attended the Ripley Fall Fair parade, assisted with DARE program in elementary schools, and helped create LCBO bags with OSAID slogans.
