At 5:31 am 15 May 2010 Saugeen Shores Police and fire services attended to a house fire at the north-west corner of Ray and Bluewater streets in Port Elgin.

The house on fire was under construction and was framed and had just been roofed. Area residents did an excellent job of going door to door making sure residents were evacuated. The size of the fire combined with the house to the west starting on fire and with the wind produced intense heat and a lot of debris on fire was blowing in the area.  The house under construction was burned to the ground and the residence to the west was also destroyed.

No one was injured in this incident. The Office of the Fire Marshalls office will not be investigating as it does not reach their mandate. Police and Fire along with Forensic Identification officers searched the scene and this incident remains under investigation.

Police are investigating two other mischief occurrences in the area, one on Ray St where sometime overnight culprit(s) threw a rock through a basement window, and one on Gingrich Cres where a furnace exhaust vent was partially filled with dirt.

At this point these incidents appear related. If anyone has any information on these three incidents or if they observed and unusual activity at that time they are asked to call police at 519-832-9200 or Crimestoppers.
