(L) Heather Hunter RN, Joan McCannel RN, Brian Wakelin, Foundation Chairman, Robert (Bob) Mack, Founder of the Carolyn Fund, Patti Ferris RN, and Christine Kelly, Foundation Development Officer & Treasurer celebrate the first 3 recipients receiving certificates acknowledging the Carolyn Frances Mack Nursing Education Fund support of their continuing education

In less than six months since its creation, The Carolyn Frances Mack Nursing Education Fund has grown to $20,000 and already has three nurses receiving certificates acknowledging the Funds support of their continuing education.

At a ceremony on Friday, May 7, Registered Nurses, Heather Hunter, Joan McCannel and Patti Ferris were presented with the first three Carolyn Fund certificates.

The Carolyn Frances Mack Nursing Education Fund was created by the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation to accept the memorial donations collected when Carolyn Mack passed away two years ago. The Fund provides the Southampton Hospital Nursing Team with specific training opportunities in the areas of Palliative, Cardiac Care and Clinical Technology Education as well as Leadership Training.

Carolyn Mack (nee Helwig) had been a Team Leader of the inpatient medical and surgical units as well as Clinical Supervisor at Southampton Hospital.  The opportunity for education and training through a fund in Carolyn's honour has been enthusiastically welcomed by the nursing team.  Carolyn’s career demonstrates that a nursing education fund in Carolyn's name is a wonderful tribute to her memory.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to our Community for supporting the Carolyn Fund and creating special educational opportunities for our Southampton Nurses!

Thank you for helping to keep healthcare close to home!   For inquiries or donations to the Carolyn Fund, contact, Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
