![]() Thank-you very much for posting Ian Evans' photo of VE Day in Doncaster England. I hope that some people might find photos of parades or returning soldiers interesting.
I do not have any of my dad (Marme Burrows) when he returned from
England but my mother, a year prior to marrying my dad, was in the
CWAC (Canadian Women's Army Corp) in London on VE Day. I have
attached a scan of two photos taken at and near that time.
The first is of VE Day at Trafalgar Square and the 2nd is of my mother (Ruby Schaefer, in the middle) and two of her friends on one of the Trafalgar lions. My mother said that the first thing that she and her friends did when they heard that the war was over was to cycle to a church. She had lost a few good friends in the war and all of the CWACs saw a lot of the devastation in London caused by the bombs. Sandra Burrows. P.S.
