Despite the rain, wind and cold, the Lions District C convention parade made its way down Queen Street, Kincardine, as planned Saturday morning. The Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band led the way, followed by several floats, vehicles and individuals, wearing lion costumes, Lions Club vests and paraphernalia, and even sporting the Lions purple and yellow colours in a spectacle of balloons. The Palmerston Lions Club had a train engine on its float, promoting "Full Steam Ahead" for the district convention next year in Palmerston. Lions Clubs in Kincardine, Tiverton and Chepstow hosted this year's event at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, throughout the weekend. Besides the parade, the convention featured a golf tournament Friday at Ainsdale Golf Course, as well as a flag-raising at the Kincardine Library Friday afternoon and the planting of of a memorial Ginkgo tree at Lions Park, beside the Davidson Centre, later Friday afternoon, followed by a social evening and dance. Lions members attended from as far as Goderich in the south, Lion's Head in the north, and Orangeville, Shelburne and Palmerston to the east. Haynes H. Townsend, International Director of the Lions, was the special guest for the weekend. A judge from Georgia, he was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of the International Association of Lions Clubs last summer. He spoke at the annual Governor's Ball on Saturday night.
Brenda McMullen of the Kincardine Lions Club rides her scooter, noting "We may be small", followed by the truck that said "But we think BIG".
