The Ripley Family Y is running a summer camp this year for children ages four to 12. "We have about 15 children committed so far at various weeks throughout the summer," said Gerda McKay, supervisor of the Ripley Family Y Childcare Centre. "We are hoping to increase the number of registrations with a presentation held at the school barbecue this Thursday (May 13) and our open house, barbecue and carnival held on June 10." Registrations will be accepted until mid-June. Parents can register their children at the childcare centre, and pre-payment is mandatory. The summer camp will be split into two divisions - senior and junior. Senior camp, open to children ages seven to 12, runs July 5 to Aug. 27, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with early drop-off and late pick-up available. It will be held at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre with a variety of daily activities based on weekly themes, off-site excursions/trips and special events. Cost for senior camp is $120/week per child (subsidized spaces are available) which includes the bus trips and special events - parents are to provide a healthy lunch and snacks for those trips. Junior camp, open to children ages four to six (must be entering Junior Kindergarten in the fall), also runs July 5 to Aug. 27, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the cost is $31/day per child. It will be taking place mainly within the confines of the regular childcare centre, other than mornings and outings. |
![]() The junior campers will join the regular camp for morning activities and then spend the afternoon at the childcare centre having lunch and doing their own activities. For more information or to pre-register for camp, contact MacKay at 519-395-5570 or by E-mail at gmckay@ymcaowensound.on.ca.
