Alcohol is the number one drug of abuse in Bruce and Grey counties.

That's what a group of parents was told at a drug awareness seminar held Tuesday night (May 4) in the library at Kincardine District Secondary School.

The seminar was a presentation of the KDSS Home and School Association and School Community Council, with funding from a Provincial Parents Reaching Out (PRO) grant.

The speakers were South Bruce OPP constables Kevin Martin, community services officer, and Glen Fields who is stationed at KDSS.

They said prescription drug use in on the rise, mostly because it’s affordable for many young people. For $10, a handful of various drugs can be bought.

They stressed how important it is that parents communicate with their children, and talk to them right away about any changes in their behaviour, appearance and even their friends.
