THE PAINT JOB

A man relaxed on his front porch

One sunny Sunday morning

He read the paper back to front

Was half asleep and yawning

Big Moose came slowly walking by

Looking the worse for wear

He was heading  back up north

But didn't have the fare

Any odd jobs you need done?

He called out from the lawn

I haven't eaten for two days

His clothes were old and worn

He sat down on the bottom step

To stop himself from fainting

There's a porch like this at back

That needs a little painting

The owner sez, now wide awake

Looking for a deal

Save a few bucks here he thought

Buy this bum a meal

He counted all his change

It came to $7.20

To buy you fries and coke, he sez

I think that's more than plenty

The hungry Moose accepted.

The owner got the paint

No paint drips on the bricks, he sez

Try hard not to faint

He gave the paint and brushes

To the poor dishevelled hack

Go on, he sez, Get moving

The porch is round the back

He poured himself a cold one

As the sun rose in the sky

Settled back and watched

The tiny clouds go drifting by

Fifteen minutes later

Much to his surprise

 The metalic chink of money

Made him open up his eyes

Moose was counting up the change

He'd left upon the table

He remembered some old adage

About a package and it's lable

He sez, Done already?

You must work pretty fast

Moose sez, That was nothing

I've done big  jobs in the past

Sorry I woke you up pal

Didn't mean to trouble you

By the way, that's not a Porche

It's a brand new BMW
