It was a time of celebrating achievement but also saying goodbye, as the students and staff at Saugeen District Secondary School honoured teacher Deborah Barrett on her retirement at the awards assembly Friday morning. Her colleagues put together a humorous power-point presentation, with old photos, likening her to a precious bird that is rare to find, and featuring her art students and their work. As Barrett stood up on stage, to a standing ovation, she was completely overwhelmed. "I have enjoyed teaching art at SDSS immensely," she said. "You are all so unique and your work is so meaningful and different. Let yourself be who you really are. Remember you can do anything you want to do. Believe in yourself and you can do great things." Rev. William McCarty presented the Community Peacemaker Award to Victoria Bertrand, noting she has been involved in peacemaking development in her school and her community.
