One of the most emotionally moving parts of the upcoming Relay for Life fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society is the lighting of the luminaries. Each luminary (candle within a bag) is lighted in memory of a loved one who has, or had cancer with individual messages written on each bag. Each luminary is sold for five dollars ($5), all proceeds of which go to the Cancer Society for research. TD Branch in Port Elgin, a co-sponsor of the 2nd Annual Relay for Life event, is now selling the luminaries. "Last year, many people waited to buy their luminaries at the Relay for Life event at the high school," says Mini Jacques, Publicity Chair for the Event. "Unfortunately, we ran out so we are encouraging everyone to buy them as soon as possible." |
