Six local police services will join forces this summer and fall working in conjunction with each other in an effort to increase traffic safety in Grey and Bruce Counties.  The services include the West Grey Police Service, Saugeen Shores Police Service, Hanover Police Service, Owen Sound Police Service and the Grey County and South Bruce O.P.P. detachments.

During the summer and fall months the amount of traffic on our highways increase and that is why these agencies will be working together to execute a series of traffic enforcement initiatives in Grey and Bruce Counties.  Enforcement initiatives will include R.I.D.E. checks, speeding, aggressive driving, seatbelt violations with concentration in known trouble spots and high traffic areas.

Motorists and citizens will see officers from outside their municipalities working together in their neighbourhoods executing a series of traffic enforcement initiatives.

“This effort is an excellent example of how well law enforcement agencies can come together in the interest of public safety and I feel confident that these endeavours will provide positive results,” says Chief Rene Berger of the West Grey Police Service.

Update

On Sunday May 23rd, members of the Saugeen Shores Police Service, West Grey Police Service, Hanover Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police worked together to promote road and water safety within the Town of Saugeen Shores.  This event was the first of a number of joint enforcement initiatives that the organizations will be conducting together.

Teams of officers conducted RIDE checks, Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Liquor Licence Act (LLA) enforcement throughout the municipality.  Enforcement of the Small Vessel Regulations also took place along the Saugeen River.

This group of officers laid a total of 34 HTA charges, 4 LLA charges and 1 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charge. During RIDE checks one 3 day licence suspension was issued.  Boaters were both educated in and then required to have the proper safety equipment before venturing out on the river.

“This Sunday of the May long weekend is typically a very busy day for the Saugeen Shores Police Service.  We were very fortunate to have the assistance of our area community safety partners to help in ensuring that our residents and visitors had a safe and fun weekend” - Inspector Ken McCulloch, Saugeen Shores Police Service.
