Local swimmers compete with lifesaving skills

Two members of the Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club (SSLC) travelled to Montreal, June 4 – 6, to compete at the 2010 Canadian Pool Lifesaving Championships.

All events are physical events that combine lifesaving skills with speed and endurance.  They competed against ladies from across the country and both did extremely well. As a team, they finished 5th out of eight teams in the Women’s team scores and 7th with 174 points out of eight teams in the combined team scores.

 

Alex Larson – competed in the Women’s 16 – 19 years of age. 

200m Obstacle Swim – 2:57:53 6th

200m Superlifesaver   - 3:16:80

50m Manikin Carry – 55.06 5th

100m Rescue Medley -  1:52:50 5th

100m Carry with Fins – 1:22:69 3rd

100m Tow with Fins – 1:18.61 2nd

Pentathlon       60 points – 2nd

If an individual swims in all the events, their points are tallied from each individual event with points then awarded based on what place they finished.

The girls had a time of 00:16:05 2nd in Line throw which placed them second. 

Alyce Sutcliffe – competed in the Women’s 20 and over age category. 

200m Superlifesaver – 3:04:16 4th

50m Manikin Carry – 50.06 9th

100m Rescue Medley 1:56:10 5th

100m Carry with Fins – 1:12:61 2nd

100m Tow with Fins – 1:15:20 4th

 

Sutcliffe, who finished 2nd in Line Throw at 00:16:05, has also been named an alternate for the Canadian Team that will be travelling to Egypt this fall to compete at Rescue 2010 - World Life Saving Championships.

Next up for members of SSLC is training for summer pool and waterfront lifesaving competitions.
