Unfortunately, the Mens’ Night event for June 3 was rained out, but this week, the weather cooperated and we managed a good Thursday night round of golf. The play this week took place on the front nine, a par 35 track. In the A-flight, Hugh Morrison Sr. took first low gross with a four over par round of 39. Phil Hunt was second in the flight with a 43. Mike Cleary captured first low net with a net score of 36, followed by Paul Holk with a net score of 37. In the B-flight, Kent Bergstrom had a great round, shooting a 41 and winning first low gross. Jim Norwood also had a good nine with a 43, which would have won him second low gross, but as it turned out, his net score of 32 was good enough to win first low net for Woody. In the C-flight, Aaron Mahon shot 44 to win first low gross. Don Foell won first low net with a net score of even par, 35. In the D-flight, Russ Solomway won first low gross with a round of 48, while Bill Streeter took first low net with a net score of 38. Grant Shular won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole and Bill Berry, who is taking up golf full time now, sunk the longest putt on #1. Senior Mens’ Golf News On June 1, the Senior Mens’ Group held a team scramble event. This was an eighteen-hole competition in which each player on a team had to use at least 3 drives during the round. In first place, with a score of three under par 69, was the team captained by Barry Beatty with Bob Speight, Dennis Johnston and Don Foell. The team captained by Glenn Elliott with Don Hill, George Wilson and Tom Bailey came second with a one under par round of 71. Paul Holk almost sunk his tee shot on the fifth hole, coming up about two inches short of the elusive ace, but he easily won the Closest the Pin competition on the hole. Bert Tripp won the same contest on #13. On June 8, the Seniors returned to their regular eighteen hole game in which each player records his own score and the field is divided into four flights based on handicaps.
