Students from Sydenham public school recently returned from a student exchange trip to Rankin Inlet.

Two teachers, Kate Walsh and Michael Law, along with 25 students, participated in the student exchange sponsored by the Canadian Sports & Friendship Exchange Program.

The Bluewater students left April 20th and, after spending a night in Winnipeg arrived in Rankin Inlet at Nunavut the following day, many having flown for the first time.

In Rankin  Inlet, students stayed in the homes of the grade seven and eight students that they had been matched up with.

During the week, the students participated in several activities including traditional Inuit games, a community feast, building a tradition igloo, ice fishing on Hudson's Bay and eating traditional foods such as raw whale, caribou and Arctic Char.

The following week, 30 Rankin Inlet students arrived in Ontario as part of the exchange.  Among the many activities, the students and their teachers travelled to Toronto to see the CN Tower and the Royal Ontario Museum and also visited Bruce Peninsula National Park in Owen Sound.

A highlight  for the Sydenham students was the opportunity to exhibit their 'northern' photography at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound.
